First Month!

North Devon property expert Michael Adey has enjoyed a stunning first month in business since he set up his own agency in the late summer.

Having officially launched Michael Adey Property in early September, the former residential manager at the South Molton office of one of the largest regional firms has benefitted from a thriving property market during the early stages of his new venture.

But by blending local knowledge and contacts, approaching 14 years of experience, a personable nature and an eye for stylish presentation, Michael has also punched well above his weight as an independent agent.

With nine new instructions since the start of September, Michael has already seen six sales agreed on properties in South Molton, Chittlehampton and Umberleigh.

“It’s been an amazing start,” Mike said, “and I’ve been overwhelmed with the support so far. I just wanted to say thank you to those that have and are coming my way. It’s much appreciated and I wouldn't have a business without your support.

“It’s a great foundation to start from and it will help me introduce many new ideas to the business, so the presentation of my portfolio clients’ properties is its absolute best.”

Michael who was born and raised in North Devon and lives in Umberleigh with his wife Rebecca and three-year-old son James,  said the coronavirus pandemic and the resulting stamp duty holiday had sparked a surge in the local property market, including for residents looking to relocate to North Devon.

He said: “There’s no doubt that more people are looking to move to this area, as home working becomes the norm rather than the exception and people look for a better lifestyle.

“However the stamp duty holiday – no tax on the first £500,000 of a purchase until the end of March next year – has also kick-started a massive surge in people taking the opportunity to move house.

“So anyone who is looking to upgrade their family home, or indeed downsize, is finding that now is an excellent time to do so.

“The vibrant market also means that houses are being bought quickly, often close to or even above a realistic asking price. So it’s an exciting time for vendors, purchasers and agents. Long may it continue!”

Michael said he was enjoying the freedom to run an agency in a modern and innovative way, making the most of digital marketing opportunities and techniques.

“Along with changes in our society comes a changing face of estate agency,” he said. “While some agents have been slow to adapt, my agency is all about the modern approach.

“My career has seen me work with the UK’s largest estate agency group and, for the past 10 years, one of the largest firms in the region.

“Now, I’m crystallising that experience in combination with something new and my own values – hopefully striking the right balance between professional competence and personal service, using all the benefits of modern technology.

“I recognise the importance of online presentation – as with many businesses, the internet is revolutionising estate agency. Part of my mission is to portray my clients’ property in its best possible light, using my own professional photography. It’s good for generating interest and securing sales and, if this first month is anything to go by, it’s an approach which seems like it’s going to work.”
